Our Story
FROMÂ OUR FAMILY TO OUR COMMUNITY
In 1995, Captain Don Belter of the San Bernardino County Sheriffâs Department was commiserating with his peers about the lack of emergency ice delivery in the area. Ice delivery options just werenât available when natural disasters and other urgent situations arose around the county. Many ice companies existed, but none offered comprehensive services for customers who needed ice delivery at night, on weekends, or most importantly, when the unexpected happened.
Don soon discovered other under-serviced groups that could also benefit from emergency ice service. Restaurants, bars, clubs, and other businesses whose ice machines were broken or operating slowly, or whose ice needs ballooned during hot weather, werenât able to take care of their customers quickly.
The community had a need and Don had a vision. Enter his son, Mark Belter, and Bear Ice was born. Together, Don and Mark established three guiding principles for Bear Ice that remain at the heart of the companyâs mission to this day:
Bear Ice continues to expand its services, delivery area, and family. Donâs son, Matthew Belter, joined the company in 2014. Matthew and Mark, along with the rest of the Bear Ice team, strive every day to honor their original mission and serve the needs of families, businesses and agencies throughout Southern California.
